Hello everyone! This is a short and quick post to introduce the new Alcohol and Drug Counselor certification exam by the IC&RC, which will be administered by all IC&RC member boards in late 2014, early 2015. I 
will be publishing more detailed information about the test, but for now I will mention what the new examination will cover.
The main change is in the name of the content. The very well known 8 Practice Domains were grouped into 4 Performance Domains. Notice the change in the word practice, into performance. Is the information completely different, then? The answer is, no. The information is the same; in fact, the new exam will continue to measure competency in the same areas. The 4 Performance Domains, are:
- Performance Domain 1: Screening, Assessment, and Engagement
- Performance Domain 2: Treatment Planning, Collaboration, and Referral
- Performance Domain 3: Counseling
- Performance Domain 4: Professional and Ethical Responsibilities
Engagement = Client, Family, and Community Education
Collaboration = Service Coordination
So, if you’re planning on taking the new LCDC exam, also known as the Alcohol and Drug Counselor exam, by the International Credentialing and Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC), stay tuned because I will update my blog and my study guide, and I will be publishing more information related to this new exam.

LCDC Exam Review 
I took the exam and failed. I ordered the IC&RC Advanced Alcohol and Drug exam. The majority of the book was pertaining to trauma informed care and did not have any questions on the exam about trauma informed care. I was disappointed and hope no one buy that worthless study exam. It was $70 for the study guide!!SMH
Any suggestions on good study material that will help me pass the this exam.

Unfortunately, I only have knowledge of the IC&RC ADC and not the AADC (Advanced). However, I recommend that you follow the AADC candidate’s guide and focus on the topics they tell you to study. You can download the candidate’s guide from the IC&RC website.

What plans do you have for the IC & RC ADVANCED alcohol and drug counselor examination? I’m next door in Louisiana and I am not sure what other states are doing but we have three levels of licensure. I am planning on taking the Masters level exam in May or June of 2015. The first two levels changed in February but the Masters level doesn’t change until May 11, 2015.
Hi Herb, I am not familiar with the topics covered in the Advanced ADC. Is that the test for Supervisor level?
Yea! I am in North Carolina and have the same dilemma. This is not a supervisor’s exam but is a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist exam in North Carolina.
Vernon, the LCAS requires the IC&RC AADC exam, which is not necessarily a supervisor’s exam but it does includes those skills in the 4 Performances Domains. And this test also covers the rest of the 8 Practice Domains from the previous version of the test.
